Plant Your Own Joy Reviews

Penny – Leeds, UK

Rowan is so lovely and knowledgeable, I felt really supported and listened to despite being a total newbie with zero clue about gardening. Her enthusiasm for the space (despite it being a tricky one!) really buoyed me up and inspired me to get cracking on something I’d put off for ages.

The garden is already looking so much nicer than it did before (it only had a few plants in the central planter prior to our consultation) and the plants I bought from the shady plants website Rowan recommended are THRIVING.

I enjoyed the whole process but the absolute best thing is having the calendar. I find it very inspiring to be able to come back and look at the images of the plants you suggested for my garden. This project would seem quite overwhelming otherwise – I like having a visual reminder of what I’m aiming for and how lovely it will be. I also love the way you’ve set out how the different plants will flower through the year. I find it very easy to process the information that way.

I also found our video chat useful and fun – you were so enthusiastic and passionate about gardening, and I liked your ‘just give it a go’ attitude that made me feel like, yes, I can do this!

I loved the whole thing. You were very responsive, made it clear what was going to happen when and I what I could expect. And it was a joy chatting with you. I’ve got some good ideas for my garden now, bought some bulbs last week and am going to make a start soon. Will keep you posted!

It has been a great process, very easy and comprehensible. The flowering calendar looks very nice (we’ll be printing it and putting it somewhere prominent).

The plants themselves look perfect for us, they fit what we need very well.

We’ve really appreciated the work you’ve put in, it’s been so helpful and just what we

needed.

Rowan has transformed my garden! The biggest thing they did was listen to me – finding out what I like, what I don’t like and why I have a weird hatred of the most innocent looking plants!

My garden was a patch of boring nothingness but thanks to Rowan, it is now thriving. I have a sweet pea teepee, a micro orchard, colourful border, chamomile bed, fruit patch, veg garden and herb garden.

I love their non-judgemental, accessible approach. No going on about potash, or how I must do this or that, but understanding my limited time and knowledge, and planning a garden that works with my lifestyle. They also respected my commitment to wildlife and the environment.

They’ve had some absolutely brilliant ideas that really tap into my passions. I love food, so they helped me create an “edible hedgible” – covering my boring fence while providing me with tasty treats. They not only provided a useful flowering calendar and plant suggestions, but also a list of where to buy them, so I could get good quality plants.

One of the biggest impacts is how I’ve been able to use their advice in other areas of my life. My garden needed a lot of work and they encouraged me to focus on one area at a time – a mantra I have taken onboard!

I’ve used other gardening consultants but Rowan was the best by a country mile. I think as well as the listening and the encouragement, she gave me the confidence to try things out that I didn’t have before. I hated gardening before but now I enjoy it – and the garden itself. It’s become my haven.
